Abstract: The dynamics of escape from a cluster which moves on a circular orbit in the Galaxy can be studied in the context of Hill's equation. Surprisingly, analytical studies of the escape of stars from star clusters beyond this traditional formulation are rare. In this study, we generalized Hill's formalism for a cluster moving on an elliptical orbit. Using this more generalized approach, we calculated the time-dependent escape rate for the circular case. This approach can be used to calculate the escape rate for the elliptical case in the future.
